Have you ever truly worried about where your next meal will come from? Our team hasn’t, but there are plenty of women and children right here in our community who do.
For our 3rd event, Community Refresh partnered with Star of Hope Transitional Living Center to feed over 40 women and children a healthy lunch.
About The Charity
Star of Hope Transitional Living Center is a year-long developmental program for homeless women and single-parent families. They get more than a hot meal three times a day and a place to sleep. This center provides substance abuse recovery programs, ABE/GED programs and career training to give them the skills they need to land a job and support themselves.
Our Experience
The seasoned volunteers in the kitchen truly love helping others and were excited for us to join them. We started the morning unpacking inventory and preparing food. When everything was ready, we took our places in the serving line and dishwashing station. And we served.
It was humbling to see the gratitude in these women and children’s faces for simply handing them a tray of food. Because of this center, they were able to smile and enjoy their afternoon even though they were dealt a tough hand. The Star of Hope is providing just that, hope.
What You Can Do To Help
Star of Hope has a variety of volunteer options. We chose to help in the kitchen, but they also need call center, library, help desk, and clothing store volunteers. To make a difference, fill out a Volunteer Interest Form.
If you’re unable to volunteer, you can also make a monetary, food or clothing donation. Here’s How To Give.
And if you’d like to help out at other charities in the area, Become a Community Refresh(er).
